Teacher Bio

Mrs. Susan Dowling

I have been an early childhood educator for over ten years.   This is my first year teaching at St. Joseph’s and I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful school. I attended Catholic School from Kindergarten all the way through college.  I began my teaching career in a Catholic School in the Diocese of Brooklyn and I have also taught in a private school setting.    I hold a New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education.  I received a B.A. in psychology and an M.A. in education from St. John’s University.

I believe that young children learn best through hands on, exploratory, active and fun educational activities.  Through participation during music and movement activities, prayer time, story time, arts and crafts activities, and dramatic and structured play children grow socially, emotionally, academically and spiritually.  I feel it is important to provide children with a nurturing, consistent, structured environment and the opportunity to strengthen their independence.

Home – School Connection

When parents and teachers work together, everyone benefits.  Parents know their children best and teachers can provide a new perspective.  It is vital for parents and teachers to work together to help each child to reach his/her full potential.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns or questions that you have.
