Early Childhood Classroom Guidance

1. Meet Your School Counselor Activity- This week I introduced myself and my role as your child's school counselor. I will be teaching classroom lessons and helping your child have a great year! School Counselors often check in with students to help them with friends, schoolwork, and any not-so- good feelings. Please contact me this year if I can help your child!

1. Listening and focusing attention- Listening and focusing attention helps students participate successfully in school and helps support positive relationship with peers. This week we read Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen by Howard Binkow and Susan Cornelison. We learned that our eyes, ears, voice, and body all have a special job to help us listen and learned a special song about listening.

2. Feelings- Learning about feelings and emotions is part of developing positive self- esteem and better relationships with others. As a child's emotional intelligence grows, they are increasingly able to use their emotional information information to guide their own behavior. Today we read and discussed, Glad Monster, Sad Monster by Ed Emberley. We created movements for each feeling and danced around like monsters!
