Extra help is available during study hall, lunch, or after school by appointment.

This course will focus on many different aspects of a student’s learning experience and the ability to apply the mathematical practices. The first emphasis is on study habits, including homework, note-taking, study skills, and test taking. Mastery of basic skills in arithmetic is second. The third point of emphasis and most challenging is the ability to apply the processes and proficiencies addressed in the Mathematical Practices.

Sixth grade mathematics is about (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking.

-ratios and proportional reasoning

-early expressions and equations

Required Fluency:

6.NS.2 Multi-digit division

6.NS.3 Multi-digit decimal operations
Mathematical Practices:
**
