7th Grade Social Studies
This will be the first half of American History, covering early Native American settlers through the end of the Civil War. Students will be able to accurately use primary sources and evidence in answering writing assignments and come away with a greater scope of the founding of our nation. We will discuss the early inhabitants and cultures of the Native Americans and how geography developed their cultures.
As well, we will travel through colonial development and the War for American Independence. This will involve greater detail about the founding of our nation, the current government structure and the U.S. Constitution. The class will also go through Westward Expansion, times of great intellectual transformations in American Society, and lastly the division of the United States in the mid-19th century over the power of states rights and differences in culture.

Following the election of President James Madison in 1808, the United States entered an era in which its power and authority were tested by other nations across the world. The War of 1812, once again pitted the Americans and the British in a war against each other. What were the causes of this war? What impact did this war have on American society? Please be sure to use details and evidence to support your ideas.
"The Era of Good Feeling" was the used to describe the presidency of James Monroe (1817-1825) and it was time of prosperity in the United States. Explain how America, both thrived and became divided during this time period. Think about using details about Henry Clay and John Calhoun, what were they mostly concerned about with regards to governing? Impact of the Monroe Doctrine and expansion in America.
