5th Grade Social Studies

This is a year when students are starting to enhance their general understanding of the Western Hemisphere and the United States. Expectations of students vary from using text based evidence to support claims in their writing assignments, connecting geography to culture & civilizations, and lastly understanding cause and effect relationships with events in history.

The first topic of study with be the “Early People of the Americas”, discussing the first Native American tribes in North and South America. Then moving through to European Exploration and the relationships European nations maintained with the Mayans, Incans, and Aztecs. This unit will also involve the Columbian Exchange and various trade routes from the Western and Eastern Hemispheres. There will also be discussions ranging from geography, government, economy and culture of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Towards the end of the year there will be a look into the early British Colonies and other important events within American History.

5th Grade Assignments:

-Southern Colonies Take Home Quiz will be due on Friday, March 23, 2018.

-Southern Colonies multiple choice quiz will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2018.

-Complete questions on page 119 in your workbook, this assignment will be due on Thursday, April 12, 2018. 

-Analyzing Points of View Take Home Quiz due on Friday, April 27, 2018.

-French and Indian War written expression test on Friday, May 11, 2018. Please be sure to study the packet we are working on this week!

-Take Home Quiz will be due on Friday, May 25, 2018.
