8th Grade Media/Research

The Students were introduced to the Big 6 Research Model last year.  They used this outline to assist with conducting research on a topic that was assigned by their teacher.  Students explored various websites for credibility, and discovered that Wikipedia was not a credible source.  Website evaluation and citation was also explored.  Students were introduced to topics such as Plagiarism vs Paraphrase, how to incorporate parenthetical citation in your research report, and how to write a Research Paper using MLA format, complete with a Works Cited page. When students are in middle school, understanding how to find trustworthy info on the web becomes a big part of their academic and personal lives. These multimedia lessons and teaching tools will help prepare students to evaluate reliable sources, navigate the ins and outs of copyright, and locate and learn from quality news and media content.
